Welcome to the group. I am sorry to hear that Derek has been having
attacks. You are right to be leary of the ERCP because it will most
definitely cause an attack. However, sometimes the test results can
be very helpful.
My 12 year old daughter also suffers from these attacks. Alot can be
said for watching your diet. You will find this group very
informative and supportive.

Re: antioxidant therapy

2008-12-03 05:52:50

HI Christina & Derek
I don't know any on on Antioxidant Therapy but maybe this will
help you. I also want to welcome you to our family here at Tpp.
Please fill free to post any question you my have.
Antioxidant Therapy
Antioxidants are substances that seem to have a protective effect in
the body. To best
understand the beneficial role these chemicals play, it is useful to
first describe the term
oxidation. This is the process by which cells use oxygen to perform
their normal function.
In so doing, highly charged chemicals called Oxidants, such
as "oxygen free radicals,"
are produced. These normal by products of metabolism can have a
deleterious effect on
the body

antioxidant therapy

2008-12-02 23:38:39

Does anyone here do the antioxidant therapy that they do in
Manchester? I've read quite a bit about it, but don't know if the
docs in the US are even allowed to try it....FDA and Drug companies
keepin' us down.
If anyone is doing it, I'm curiuos to know how it is working, if a
doctor, or anyone is overseeing it, and anything else that may be
helpful.
Thankyou.

For Abby - Journalling and Enzymes

2008-12-02 16:10:20

Dear Abby,
It is an excellent idea for all of us to keep a journal. Not with just how many
enzymes and food we intake, but also any meds we take and how we are feeling in
respond to any of the above. Additionally should mention any pain or nausea,
how we are sleeping, any that pertains to how we are managing with this disease.
Time consumign yes, but yes worth the effort to have this to show to the
doctors.
You also asked about enzymes. The best way to determine if he really needs the
enzymes is with the fecal fat test. I have always said a GI should do this test
BEFORE prescribing enzymes. It is considered the "gold standard" by some GIs
for diagnosing Chronic Pancreatitis.
What the test involves:
For 6 days intaking 100 grams of fat without any enzymes - this is the hardest
part of the test!! But it is a good time to get all them foods you normally
won't eat (i.e. donut, pizza, real eggs, etc). The last 3 days of this test,
you collect all stool. I recommend staying at home, otherwise you have to carry
your "bucket" with you. You have to keep it cold too. I suggest using a cooler
and ice packs for this. Normally result is less than 6 grams of fat found per
day.
In Nov 2000 I had 15 grams per day and little over a year ago it was 31 grams
per day - severe malabsorption.
Anyway, the results of this test is the most accurate way to determine if
enzymes are needed and how many. Hope this helps!
Lots of Gentle Hugs,

For Laura - Gall Bladder and Pancreatitis

2008-12-02 09:18:50

Hi Laura,
You asked how come so many people develop pancreatitis problems after having
their gall bladder removed. Actually I think most people with pancreatitis have
it first, and the docs remove the gall bladder hoping that will solve the
problems. At least it seems like the first they do is take the gall
bladder.....

Re: [ThePancreatitisPlace] Question to ALL

2008-12-01 17:56:44

Hi
My normal body temp. now is about 96.2. If it even hit what they consider normal
98.6, I would be running a fever. I also have sweats this time of year......cold
sweats. I don't know why. Maybe our pancreas has something to do with it. I also
get severe sugar drops. I have been in the 30's. I am not diabetic. My temp also
drops below 96 . I also have cyroglobulinemia. This is a blood disorder which
causes proteins to clob together in cold temperatures which causes pain and
restriction in blood flow. Is this all related........may never
know!...........Pam ga

Hi Everyone,
ReeAnn had this question last fall and again is has come up with her.
Today ReeAnn went to see her GI to talk to him about some problems
she was having. When the nurse took her temperature it was 94.5. We
have it documented in the low 95's, but this is the lowest reading we
have gotten. When we ask about this they seem doctors and nurse alike
are not concern.
This only seems to happen in the fall, winter and early spring
months. ReeAnn sweats a lot during this time of year too. Every time
her temp rises to 96 ot 97 she breaks out in a whole body sweat. I
was wondering if any one else has experienced this and has an answer
why this may be happening.
